Mushrooms (Agaricus Bisporus) are one of the most popular mushrooms in the kitchen. Both umbrella and stem are used.

Mushrooms differ from plants in that they have neither roots nor stems or leaves. They also do not contain chlorophyll, which is why they feed on surrounding organic matter.

However, if we live in an apartment, it is best to use elongated flower pots and place them in a dark place. Since mushrooms are mushrooms, they don’t need light to grow.

Growing mushrooms at home is easier than you think and you can continue production until you run out of substrate.

    material

    • straw
    • water
    • compost
    • granulated mycelium (you can also buy a pre-prepared bale)
    • 1 box (preferably made of polystyrene, as it does not rot and retains both moisture and temperature). But the box also needs a lid, pay attention to this when buying

      method

Before you start, we recommend boiling the straw. This prevents the straw from sprouting and we remove any other mushrooms that may already be in it.

      preparation

      • Then mix the straw with the compost and moisten it a little until you get an even mass. You can also add some coffee grounds, as this will nourish the compost and encourage the mushrooms to grow at the same time.
      • Then add this mixture to the box. The more substrate you add, the better the mushroom grow will be. So add whatever is available to you.
      • Then sprinkle the granulated mycelium evenly over the mixture and cover it with a finger of highly organic fertilizer. Then you have to pour water over it.
      • Now close the box so that no light comes in. You’ll need to keep them closed for about 5 to 8 days. It is important that it always remains well moistened until you see a whitish layer on the substrate. This means that the mycelium has planted itself in the substrate.

        Now the mushrooms are growing

        • Then make a new lid for the box under which the mushrooms have room to grow. Make a hole in the center of the lid to let in some indirect light. However, cover the hole with cling film to prevent moisture or temperature loss.
        • The humidity should be 80%, no more and no less. If you want, you can moisten the bottom of the lid instead of pouring the mushrooms directly. Once the water has evaporated, it’s time to pour again.
        • The first mushrooms you get after about 20 days when the hats 5-8 cm in size.
        • Separate them from the substrate when the lamellas have turned a rosy color. To do this, turn the mushroom body slightly until it separates from the substrate.

If you follow these instructions correctly, you should have a new harvest every week. This is how you grow your own organic mushrooms and use them to prepare your favorite recipes.
